National Cadet Corps
The National Cadet Corps is the Indian military cadet corps with its Headquarters at New Delhi. It comprising of Army, Navy and Air Force, engaged in grooming the youth of the country into disciplined and patriotic citizens.The National Cadet Corps in India is a voluntary organization which recruits cadets from high schools, colleges and universities all over India. Cadets are given basic military training in small arms and parades. After completion of their course preference given to them over normal candidates during selection in military based on the achievements in the corps.
It is a better start for the candidates having dreams of joining the Indian defence after their schooling.
The aim of NCC is to Develop Character, Comradeship, Discipline, Leadership, Secular Outlook, Spirit of Adventure, and Ideals of Selfless Service amongst the Youth of the Country.
The Cadet Corps Committee which was formed on 29 Sep 1946 with Pt HN Kunzru as chairman. The Bill received the assent of the Governor General on 16 Apr 1948, and the National Cadet Corps came into being by an Act of the Parliament Act No. XXXI of 1948 designated 'The National Cadet Corps Act 1948'. This Act with 13 clauses, prescribed the formation of the National Cadet Corps in India.
Colonel (later Chief of Army Staff) GG Bewoor become First Director (now called Director General) of NCC. He took over as Director of NCC on 31 Mar 1948.
“Unity and Discipline" as motto for the NCC was taken in the 12th CAC meeting held on 12 Oct 1980.
The NCC flag for various units of the NCC was first introduced in 1951. The flag was of same pattern, colour and size as was used by various regiments of the Army.
The three colours in the flag depict the three services of the Corps, red for the Army, deep blue for the Navy and light blue for the Air Force. The letters NCC and the NCC crest in gold in the middle of the flag encircled by a wreath of lotus, give the flag a colourful look and a distinct identity.
